LEARN MORE ABOUT ANDREA HIGGINS AND HER JOURNEY THROUGH EDUCATION

Passion Leads to Dedication

From a young age, Andrea had a heart for those who learn differently. It was not until adulthood that she would discover the reasoning behind that passion. As an undiagnosed ADHD student, she would continue through her educational journey with struggle and a desire to succeed. Andrea attended Texas Women's University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Child Development. She would spend her summers working as a camp counselor at Charis Hills Summer Camp for children with ADHD, high-functioning Autism, Asperger's disorder, and other special needs.

Andrea would continue on to graduate in 2013 and become a full-time staff member of Charis Hills where she would manage and facilitate a therapeutic riding program and act as Activities Coordinator to monitor and coordinate activities for staff and students weekly. In 2015 Andrea met her husband and moved to Colorado City, Texas where she obtained her emergency teaching certification and would later become certified in Special Education K-12.

With this teaching certificate, Andrea would go on to educate in a variety of settings including Resource, Math Inclusion, Self-Contained Behavior, and Life Skills. In 2022 Andrea applied to the Educational Diagnostician Program at Sul Ross University and obtained a job at the local co-op to serve as an ARD Facilitator and Behavior Interventionist for 8 small and rural districts. In December of 2023 Andrea graduated from Sul Ross and continues to serve as an Educational Diagnostician with a specialty in behavior intervention.
